Am 16. Juli 2016 wurde in Meißen eine Porzellanbiennale aus der Taufe gehoben. Sie soll die Bedeutung des zeitgenössischen Porzellans in der Stadt stärken. Symbolträchtiger konnte der Ort an dem diese Präsentation internationaler aktueller Porzellankunst gezeigt wird, kaum sein, als die das Stadtbild krönende Albrechtsburg, auf der 1710 die erste europäische Porzellanmanufaktur entstand. Längst hat sich in der Stadt eine lebendige Studioporzellanszene entwickelt, die auf der Basis souveränen handwerklichen Könnens neue künstlerisch anspruchsvolle Werke hervorbringt und damit einen festen Platz im zeitgenössischen deutschen Porzellanschaffen beansprucht. Dazu gehört die Künstlergruppe “Weißer Elefant”, von der die Inititative zu einem “Verein zur Förderung zeitgenössischen Porzellans e.V.” ausging und mit diesem sowie der Albrechsburg Meißen die Biennale ausrichtete. Eingeladen waren 25 Porzellankünstler aus Deutschland, der Schweiz, Italien, Frankreich, Belgien, Russland, der Ukraine und aus Polen. Ausstellung bis 18. A new format for porcelain city Meissen

On 16 July 2016 a Porcelain Biennale was launched. It is intended to enhance the importance of contemporary porcelain in the city and for the city. The venue for this presentation of international contemporary art in porcelain could scarcely have greater symbolic value than the Albrechtsburg, which crowns the skyline of the city: it was the location of the first European porcelain factory in 1710. It is also significant that the grand opening took place with leading local and national politicians in attendance, and with great public interest, in the historically decoreated Festsaal (fastival hall). A studio porcelain scene has long been established in the town that produces new, ambitious artwork on the basis of sound craftmanship, demandin its firm place in the German porcelain landscape. This includes the artists´group Weißer Elefant (“White Elephant”), which instigated the initiative to found an association “for the furtherance of contemporary porcelain” and which together with the Albrechtsbur in Meissen organised the Biennale. 25 porcelain artists were invited to participate from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Belcium, Russia, the Ukraine and Poland.
